OpenProject's guide for Hacktoberfest 2021

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Support your favorite open source project in October! The importance of open source in the world is growing. At OpenProject, we often ask ourselves how we can further encourage participation. Hacktoberfest offers a great opportunity to do just that and take a first step to become part of an active open source community.

What is Hacktoberfest?

Hacktoberfest is hosted by DigitalOcean and is already in its 8th year. It is a month-long celebration of open source software. It aims to make it easier to participate in open source projects and offers many opportunities to get involved. In October, open source projects invite you to contribute in various ways.

How can I participate?

We invite you to join our OpenProject community during Hacktoberfest and beyond.

  • We have registered OpenProject in our GitHub repository with the topic “Hacktoberfest”.
  • Contribute to the improvement of OpenProject via pull requests. This doesn’t have to be a feature or bug fix, it can also include e.g. additions or changes to the documentation, FAQ and much more.
  • Participate in the OpenProject forum and answer questions or share experiences with others.
  • Organize an open source event.
  • Be a mentor to others.
  • Sponsor a feature or donate to an open source project.

High quality pull requests submitted on GitHub will be rewarded. You can sign up anytime until October 31. Just make sure you sign up on the official Hacktoberfest website and follow the rules as stated on the website so that your pull request counts.
