Now it’s official: openDesk 1.0 is here! We at OpenProject are very happy and excited to contribute the component for project management to this platform. Currently, we are at the Smart Country Convention in Berlin (15-17 October 2024), where openDesk is presented by Zendis and its vendors:

Short introduction for those who don’t know openDesk yet

If openDesk doesn’t ring a bell for you, we recommend reading this article: The rise of the Sovereign Workplace: openDesk. The office & collaboration suite brings together various open source applications into one platform, enabling efficient digital collaboration. It includes tools for document editing, email, cloud storage, and project management, all designed to work seamlessly through a unified user interface.

The Community version of openDesk is already freely available on the Open CoDE platform. With the release of openDesk 1.0, there now is also an Enterprise edition available.

What is openDesk 1.0?

openDesk V 1.0 uses established enterprise tools from well-known open source providers, ensuring a smooth user experience and enhanced collaboration. It offers two deployment options: self-hosting, supported by B1 Systems, or a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) option, hosted by the German provider STACKIT.

The launch of openDesk also emphasizes strengthening digital sovereignty by reducing reliance on proprietary software, aligning with governmental strategies to promote transparency and flexibility through open source solutions.

Alexander Smolianitski, Head of Open Source Products at ZenDiS, emphasized: “With openDesk, we offer public administration a suite that enables new forms of collaboration while strengthening digital sovereignty — a unique combination in this space.” (source, translated from German)
