About openDesk
Currently, there’s a gap in open source options for comprehensive suites that encompass typical collaboration needs like email, chat, document & knowledge management, issue tracking, and user management. This often leads IT departments to opt for proprietary options like Microsoft 365 or Google Workplace.
Nonetheless, new alternatives are emerging – such as “openDesk – The Sovereign Workspace”, a project led by the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs (BMI) and represented by ZenDiS. openDesk is dedicated to creating a robust open source counterpart to Microsoft 365, ensuring that all software, integrations, and necessary infrastructure are open source licensed. Central to this endeavor are various European open source software providers, such as Univention for user management, Open-Xchange for email, Nextcloud for file management, Nordeck / Jitsi for video conferencing, Element for chat, Collabora for document editing, OpenProject for project management, and XWiki for knowledge management.
