OpenProject wins FinancesOnline 2017 user experience award
At OpenProject we are working hard to create the best open source project management software. We constantly improve the user experience and ease of use - especially for users new to OpenProject.
Finances Online, one of the most popular business review directories, recognized this and awarded OpenProject the Great User Experience 2017 Award.
The Great User Experience Award is granted to products that offer especially good user experience. Finances Online evaluates how easy it is to start using the product and how well-designed its interface and features are to facilitate the work process.
OpenProject was awarded the Rising Star Award and Great User Experience Award last year. The Great User Experience 2017 Award confirms the further UX improvements OpenProject has made.
In its detailed review, Finances Online especially highlights OpenProject’s agile project management and project collaboration capabilities.
The review focuses in particular on the multi-project timeline report as well as on agile / scrum features. FinancesOnline also emphasizes the accessibility support (e.g. for blind users) OpenProject offers.
Recent user experience improvements
Especially with the last major OpenProject release (OpenProject 7), many areas of the application are now more user-friendly.
Most notably, the Gantt chart - which has been integrated in the work package table - makes it a lot easier to schedule tasks and create relations between phases and milestones.
Prior to this, users needed to open work packages in separate tabs and update the start and end dates. Now it is possible to simply set or update dates by dragging and dropping the element in the Gantt chart.
For distraction-free work, OpenProject 7 also introduced the Zen mode which hides all non-essential information and lets you focus on the task or list of tasks at hand.
Future user experience improvements
The next version, OpenProject 7.2, will contain several additional UX improvements:
We will remove the “Show all” button which shows or hides non-essential attributes. Therefore, users see all attributes by default. Admins can define the values shown for each type.
Additionally, the use of the work package table will be simplified with OpenProject 7.2.
