OpenProject Release 14.6 progress reporting

PRESS RELEASE 09th October 2024

OpenProject 14.6 introduces flexible progress reporting

Berlin, October 09 2024 – OpenProject announces the release of version 14.6, delivering enhanced flexibility in progress reporting based on valuable feedback from the global Community. This update ensures that OpenProject adapts to diverse project needs, offering both a detailed approach (Work/Remaining work) or a simplified method (% Complete only).

Simplified progress tracking via % Complete

OpenProject 14.6 introduces the enhanced progress reporting feature, where users once again have a choice to edit the % Complete field manually, without needing to input values for Work or Remaining work.

Detailed progress tracking via Work and Remaining Work

For the new advanced progress tracking, the input fields for Work, Remaining work, and % Complete fields interact in predictable ways. Entering or changing values will automatically derive changes for the other fields.

New configuration settings for progress tracking

To provide even more control, with OpenProject 14.6 administrators now have new configuration settings for progress calculation and % Complete hierarchy totals. Administrators can now choose between work-based and status-based progress calculation modes. For % Complete hierarchy totals, there are two options: Weighted by work, which calculates the total % Complete based on the amount of Work in each work package, or Simple average, where Work is ignored and the total % Complete is averaged across work packages. Additionally, administrators can decide whether the % Complete value changes when a work package is closed, with options for no change or automatically setting it to 100%.

These changes do not affect the status-based progress reporting mode, in which the % Complete value for a work package is set automatically based on the value assigned to a status.

Other key enhancements in OpenProject 14.6

In addition to the new flexible progress reporting, OpenProject 14.6 introduces several other important updates:

Updates for the dynamic Meetings module: You will now receive real-time update notifications whenever a meeting is updated by someone else. With a simple click, you can include the changes in your meeting to not miss any updates, making collaboration during meetings even smoother.

Enable or disable custom fields for multiple projects at once: With our last release, we already included the ability to activate a storage for multiple projects at the same time - this will now also be enabled for custom fields for projects. These features save a lot of time and effort by streamlining the configuration of large project portfolios.

Relative work package attribute macros: This new feature allows users to embed macros with relative attributes in work package descriptions, ensuring consistency across work packages without manually replacing placeholders for each attribute. The macros dynamically display the respective work package specific values, such as the Assignee. This is especially useful if you create work packages in project templates since the relative attributes will be adapted accordingly for new work packages.
